JBCStyle: Frederic Malle Carnal Flower Style

Little red. . . well we don't know what they were exactly, but they looked cool and we're always down for a little Barney's window shopping style. Okay it's us, who are we kidding.

Obviously we had to go inside.

Frederic Malle's perfumes and body lotions are exquisite. Knock-your-socks and get your nose off style. Carnal Flower and Rose upon immediate sniff will replace whatever fragrance you have been loyal to - currently or all of your life. Yes, that's a bold statement, and not said lightly.

The red pellet like objects? A chic new candle line with no labels; perfect for arranging in rows for a splash of color and an infusion of heavenly scent in your home.

Here is Frederic Malle himself, delivering one of the best lessons on perfumery and the art of fragrance:

We always love Barney's, but the Frederic Malle flagship store on Madison is a beautiful salon to visit if you have the time.

We were going to wait till we got home to light it up. . .but JBC already feels like home. Come visit if you don't believe us - you'll never want to leave.

Coca-cola, Quest, WWD, Frederic Malle's Gardenia candle, and the dopest blog online (how fortuitous it's ours!) - -

Home office style.

JBCStyle: Juicy Couture Style

When designer darling Erin Fetherston wore floor length velour Juicy Couture to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Spring 2010 Costume Institute Benefit Gala (hosted by GAP, Conde Nast, Patrick Robinson, Anna Wintour, and Oprah Winfrey as long as we're major name dropping style) we just had to ask one question.

Erin Fetherston with Bergdorf Goodman's Linda Fargo
Did the gown say Juicy across the butt?

Just kidding style. . . we love you for real, Pamela and Gela. . .you should wear fur and drink champagne in bed. The Juicy tracksuit is already a fashion icon.

We were dying to know Erin's involvement with the brand, and thank goodness for WWD, the magic 8-Ball of Fashion:

Erin Fetherston, a favorite designer of actresses such as Kirsten Dunst, Zooey Deschanel, Anne Hathaway, Winona Ryder and Cameron Diaz, has been tapped as guest designer and creative consultant at Juicy. . .
Women's Wear Daily

Here's a look at Erin from Fashion's Night Out at the Juicy store as she announces her new position:

One look at Juicy Couture's 2011 Collection and there's no sign of a track or a suit. . . or at least we can't see them because we're absolutely dazzled by the 1930s looks Fetherston has infused into the line. Champagne gowns and draped skirts with Erin's signature art deco flair. There's no doubt she's going to do what Jimmy Choo did for Uggs. And then some.

This has always been a fearless, irreverant brand and Juicy girls have always known how to bring all the boys to the yard.

The JBCStyle team already has their jazz hands out for Erin's holiday looks, but for now as we fall into cooler weather we love Juicy for its ripe price points and new, grownup edge.

This is not your mama's boot. . .

Or your daddy's hat. . .

Juicy is all grown up, Corinthians 13:11 style.

Look it up, Google style.

JBCStyle: Samantha Thavasa Style

Samantha Thavasa was founded by Kazu Terada in 1994, the current CEO and president. To date, the line has over 150 stores in Japan, and its first United States flagship store is located right next door to Christian Louboutin at 965 Madison Avenue. Over the past several seasons, Riccimie designer and Christian Dior beauty ambassador Tinsley Mortimer has designed over 30 handbag variations. . .

Tinsley's sister Dabney Mercer is the latest member to join the JBCStyle Creative & Social Media team and informs, "Tinsley is genuinely involved in every detail of each bag she designs. From picking the leathers to the hardware, to hands on involvement in the factory, she is a part of every step from concept to finished product."
Sister duos Paris and Nicky Hilton and Beyonce and Solange Knowles have been in advertising campaigns for the company, and Nicky Hilton and Victoria Beckham join the ranks with Tinsley in designing handbags for the line.

Jennifer Lopez recently endorsed the line. . .

Jenny from the block style.

Just recently the company supported Tinsley's dedication to animal rights by supporting a fundraiser for The American Humane Association's Second Chance Fund. The fund helps treat and care for abused and neglected dogs throughout the country as well as assist in their adoption. Cotton, Sarah, and Gus were three adorable dogs available for adoption - Dabney proudly shared with us today that Gus indeed got adopted!

Sarah and Cotton (below with Tinsley) are still available for adoption. It's as easy as clicking here to see who is available at Bideawee, a humane organization founded by Mrs. Flora D'Auby Jenkins Kibbe. . . bideawee means "stay awhile" in Scottish.

Scotty style.
Tinsley with Cotton

Guests enjoyed Waggy Tail cocktails and Doggy Bone cupcakes, as well as a special discount on the bags. From now until October 31st, Samantha Thavasa will donate 10 percent of all sales to the Second Chance Fund.

We purchased this glam evening number - "It's inspired by my love of the 80s, lace, and corsets," Tinsley dished. We think it's beautiful and the perfect accessory for the upcoming holiday season. (And we love Tinsley's passion for the 80s. . . who else would name evening bags Poison and Metallica? We're holding out for a Whitesnake clutch.)

And of course, how could we resist a bag in her line named "The Dabs." Patent leather perfection. . .sister style.

Stop by Samantha Thavasa and check out the wide assortment while donating towards a worthy cause.

Big in Japan style.

JBCStyle: Wass Stevens Style

I set my own standards. I inherit nothing. I stand at the end of no tradition. I may, perhaps, stand at the beginning of one.
Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

New York institution and actor Wass Stevens leaves clothing for last when we ask him about his style. It should come as no surprise; he has always steered his own course. Words, like machines, are handled with steely precision and his response is a road only he can pave. But first, the question is harnessed, then re-released in his own style:

"Style is one's lifestyle," Wass edits. "What brings someone happiness in life defines their style." A long pause, but it's not uncomfortable. He's thinking, and we like thoughtful answers. They are a dying breed.

"My dog-eared copy of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead.  I bought it at Shakespeare & Co. and carried it with me while vacationing with my best friend Paulie this summer." Why? Another long pause, and then a definitive, "Because Howard Roark is god."

Wass shifts gears from books to bikes: "My custom Chopper. An open road. Euphoria."

The lifestyle continues, and he does it well. "My candy apple vintage Charvel. It's the latest addition to my collection. I play the blues. . . channel some Stevie Ray Vaughan."

"I make myself a cup of coffee every morning and sit on that chair," Wass continues. Yes, even with coffee Wass is acutely precise:

Precision is well founded; he may make the best cup of coffee this side of Rome. "I sip my coffee and look across at Roberto Butesco's Love Bite." A soaring masterpiece covers the wall across from him, and the untamed horses of Sable Island caught in a rare moment of tenderness (or is it?) stir the senses. He digs it.

Untamed bite style.

"I love to act," he adds simply, but there's an intensity and an honestly behind the admission that makes it far from simplistic. It might be the perfect answer. Recent projects include Goat with Ice-T, Armand Assante, and Vincent Pastore and Spike Lee's The Girl is in Trouble. Wass is well known for his roles in The Wrestler and World Trade Center, been in countless Law and Order - Criminal Intent episodes as well as other films and commercials (resident shitzu Harold Moscowitz is most pleased about one movie title in his resume - can you guess?) but we think the clip featured here from Brookyln's Finest might be some of his best work to date. He steals the scene. Sorry, Ethan.

Wesley Snipes, Richard Gere, Shannon Kane, Antoine Fuqua, Wass Stevens Ethan Hawke
Now, finally, since we are JBCStyle and fashion recruiting is our business, we have to press the famously stylish Wass for the answer we originally expected - what is his favorite article of clothing in his wardrobe? We've been patient enough and Wass finally relents, perhaps even a little shyly: "My camel cashmere and mink Brioni overcoat."

In turn, we confess to relenting as well - somehow without the Rand hero, the chopper, the charvel, the perfect cup of coffee, the untamed horses, the love of his vocation. . . that coat might just be a coat. With the added lifestyle element it's given a personal cast that gives it a character and a presence.  It was Brioni, but now it's uniquely Wass.

Wear your clothes, don't let them wear you style.

We give credence to those who understand. A lesson learned from Wass Stevens, the original untamed horse.

Howard Roark laughed style.

JBCStyle: Happy Birthday Gigi Stone Style

Happy Birthday to television correspondent and anchor Gigi Stone, currently working for Bloomberg TV. Before joining Bloomberg she was at ABC News as the New York correspondent for Good Morning America, World News with Charles Gibson, and Nightline.

Why we love her style? She's a New York girl, speaks three languages, graduated from Columbia University's School of Journalism (where she won the John M. Patterson Prize for Best Television documentary) volunteered in the Peace Corps in South America, and graduated from the Outward Bound training school.

And still manages to rock a Valentino frock by night. . .
Junior Spring Benefit for Lincoln Center Institute at Private Park at Hudson, sponsored by Valentino
"My mother named me after Gigi, one of her favorite films," she shares. If you haven't seen the film, we suggest you rent it this weekend. It's stylish from beginning to end.

Doing it all with grace and elegance, Gigi style.

JBCStyle: Jamee Gregory Style

Jamee Gregory was at Bergdorf Goodman yesterday to sign copies of her gorgeous book, New York Parties, Private Views, published by Rizzoli.

Dabney Mercer, the latest addition to our Creative Team, was delighted to have Jamee personalize her copy. A few feet away, Harold Moscowitz was equally delighted by the plush rug.

Dazzling portraits of tastemakers such as Michael Kors, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Tory Burch, Jamie Drake, Zang Toi and more are featured as they prepare for their unique parties. From behind-the-scenes preparations to the grand finales, Jamee celebrates the most stylish New York City parties.

Tea with Zang Toi
We love Jamee for sharing:

A party is a gift to one's friends that requires thought and planning, a theatrical production for a very limited audience. . .I learned to entertain from my mother, Arlene Tucker, in Chicago. Every party paints a portrait.

Isn't it lovely to think so? Here's to fashion, to parties, and most importantly, the friends who help us celebrate our lives.

Home. . .the ultimate accessory for our lifestyle.

JBCStyle: Cyber vs. Print, Observing Pope Style

Why are we impressed with a man who puts out a pink paper every Wednesday in this town? Okay, our team is largely female, but this has nothing to do with Steel Magnolias style. We dig that we're going to say what we're about to say (great writing style) on a BLOG, but The New York Observer's Editor Kyle Pope might just be the last great warrior of print. We hope he accepts our cyber crown. (And yeah, there's a great website to go along with the paper and it rocks a few dope blogs, but out of respect we're not linking to it in the first paragraph. Buy the paper first, or find it on your own style).

We're talking about a paper which still features an illustration on every cover, and pages so deliciously chock full of old school, New York say-it-like-it-is reporting that anyone who is anyone (when will we tire of saying that. . . um, never) knows that The Observer enjoys one of the most educated audiences. And the wealthiest. Don't ask us for numbers or empirical data. We're all about InsiderStyle.

Just trust.

Publisher Jared Kushner with Editor Kyle Pope

How does the Prince of Print approach our social-media obsessed world? Some of us want blog traffic more than we want the over-the-knee Christian Louboutins. Sell our soul for a million hits, Dorian Gray style. Pope's thoughts on this blog-o-rama frenzy? Media Beat reports. . .

Their salaries aren't based on their traffic. It's purely a bonus system. So they're getting paid whatever they're getting paid no matter what their web traffic is doing. What we say is that we've got a bonus pool of extra free money. -Kyle Pope

. . .says the man who just replaced the tagline "New York's Weekly Newspaper" beneath the masthead with "Money, Power and the City." Bring it on.

We're saluting the pink today (no snarky it's salmon from Observer peeps, please). We're also saluting a man with over fifteen years experience working for some of the most esteemed media organizations - The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Conde Nast Portfolio - and still believes in great journalism. Still continues to seek, to question, to research, and then to write - check out his recent piece, Museum-Quality Journalism? The Observer's Editor Weighs in on 'The Last Newspaper.' It's simple. It's straightforward.

It's excellent.

He might be a lone ranger, but we can't help but be inspired by Kyle's pen is mightier than cyber space style.

The Pope is in New York City style.

JBCStyle: What Up Carrie & Rylee Style

My what big brown eyes you have style. . .

JBCStyle: Madonna and Child Style

He's been known to test the limits - with art, music videos, film, commercials - and David Foote's next exhibition promises to be no exception.

Yes, when you pull off an exhibition like the one above, one flirts with the idea of one hit wonderstyle. But he's only just begun, and with Foote it has always been about the art of creation.

His mind won't stop.

This time he's lighting up a church with his Madonna and Child series.  If you are familiar with his past work, all we can say is you ain't seen nothing yet style. . .

They're one of a kind. A labor of love, of madness, of imagination, of a vision hearkening back to a Vermeer, or even a Giotto. . . and yet even the Moma would be hard pressed to define this exhibition or have it fit in with a pre-existing genre.

That's because it doesn't.

It's art history crashing into the future and light burns from the canvas and the brushstrokes crackle.

Each one is more spectacular than the next - trust us, we've gotten a peak. Transcendent.

The exhibition will be on display from October 27th through November 27th at St. John's Lutheran Church, curated by KiptonART with lighting provided by Suffolk Designer Lighting. If you have to own a piece now (once they're gone, they're gone) you can contact the artist's studio.

Do your walls dare style?

JBCStyle: The Naked Cowboy Talks Style

Somehow it's not that bizarre when you see him in the middle of Times Square. But 11:00 p.m. on the Upper East Side and it's worth running up the block with our iphone video on panting, "Excuse me? Excuse me!" We staff the fashion world, so it's impossible for us to not be intrigued by an urban cowboy who devoutly believes tighty whities are the epitome in style.

"Excuse us, Mr. Naked Cowboy, sir, but can we discuss style? And sure, you can throw in a dance."

We should have guessed. . .of course he would start with pants. But from where? Is there anyone out there who wants to do round two of this interview - where would Naked Cowboy go to purchase his first pair of pants?

Back to Basics Style.

JBCStyle: Manolo Blahnik Style

Manolo Blahnik's new book, aptly titled Manolo's New Shoes is a collection of drawings featuring everything the maestro is obsessed with right now: Africa, architecture, botany, Russia, and urban life.

We dig random obsession style.

If shoes are a religion, then the Bergdorf Shoe Salon is our temple. And Manolo is, well. . . metaphor carried too far we get into trouble style.

The roster of contributors is stilettogasmic (combining two words that make us happy style). International Herald Tribune's editor and head fashion reporter Suzy Menkes, Vogue's creative director Grace Coddington, Oscar-winning costume designer Milena Canonero, Vanity Fair correspondent Amy Fine Collins and El Mundo's Carlos García Calvo all add their individual flair. We die.

Linda came. . .

Andre laughed. . . ah, the silver bells of fashion. . .

. . .while Blahnik signed and signed, resplendent in an amethyst suit, and the only shoes that could possiblly match the color of shoe royalty.

Punk rock pink. Why not style.

Shoe la la style.

JBCStyle: Karen Klopp On A Budget Style

Anyone who knows What 2 Wear Where founder Karen Klopp knows she has exquisite taste. Her chic team of NYC girls about town maintain a clever site that instructs women, quite simply, on what to wear where.

Say it five times fast style.

In her Good Day New York debut Klopp proved she's still one step ahead by showcasing chic looks on a budget! Only a day ago she sat amidst a pile of hand-selected, savvy purchases. . .

. . .but then pulled it together flawlessly in five distinct looks. JBCStyle Creative Director Anisha Lakhani sported the "Fall Weekend Tailgate and Football Game" look, Camille Hall's "First Corporate Job Interview" was a big hit with ladies man (and anchor) Greg Kelly, Kalliope Karella was ready to splish splash away in her "Rainy Day on the Run," Georgiana Bland had nothing to be nervous about in her "New Husband's 10th College Reunion," and Hilary Dick was an inviting "Out to Lunch With the Girls."

Good Day New York has an itemized list of all the clothing worn - Old Navy, H & M, GAP (helloooo logo drama) were popular sources. Standout steals were Georgiana's Faux Fur Jacket for $29.99 from TJ Maxx and Anisha's Pompom Cabled Bag for $19.50 from Old Navy. . . but true genius was displayed when Karen pointed out that Hilary's fitted, fur vest was actually GAP Children!!!

Don't underestimate the kids' section style.

JBCStyle: Free Wired Like A G6 Style

Doesn't matter what time of day it is, when you hear Far East Movement the body just starts groovin'. They are our favorite band this morning and we need to get our hands on Free Wired.

ASAPStyle.

Snoop Dogg guests, as does OneRepublic front man Ryan Tedder. Whether you're into Pharcyde or Dre, or Guns n' Roses and Linkin Park is more your thing, this album just kills it.

Blast this baby on your ride home from work. . .

Why we love them? They're doing something really unique with their music. Bridging the gap between underground party and mainstream hip hop and pop. They call their sound 'Free Wired' because it's not just about their sound; it's a lifestyle. They are constantly wired - a weekly music show, blogging every day (we dig that) and webisodes on FM Satellite. Oh, and they were the featured performers at Cannes Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival.

Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman captured LA, have two world tours under their belt (Lady Gaga invited them on her overseas Monstor Ball tour) and a #1 hit before even dropping their first album. Drop it like it's hot, baby.

You know we're all about InsiderStyle, and since these boys are releasing their album today, JBCStyle had to ask them about their style. . .

Apparently, it's all about the tie this fall. . .here's our exclusive video shot this morning in the Green Room right after they performed on Good Day New York with Rosanna Scotto and Greg Kelly.

Our iphone takes dope videos. Green Room Stalking Style.

Long live the LatenightStyle. . .and stay fly like a G6Style.

JBCStyle Insider Flowerstyle

This is for all the guys out there who have sent a girl flowers. Have you ever wondered what goes on at the other end? Flowers are always a stylish gift, but when they are delivered at the office there's just an added wowfactorstyle:

Belle Fleur is hands down the ultimate in chic. We're big fans of our friend Meredith Waga-Perez and when it comes to flowers, her taste is just exquisite.

JBCStyle: Man Fairy Style

We take our fashion insider style very seriously. Other style sites might have models, but we like to traverse bold new frontiers. Let everyone else feature models.

We have a Man Fairy.

It's Bryan Zaslow's birthday and we're going to keep updating all the shizzle that is going down in our office today. Video stages style. Fridays and birthdays and quintessential JBC Surprise Style. . .
