JBCStyle: Birthday Boy Style

It's Bryan Zaslow's birthday today, so please excuse us if we take a little time and space this morning to publish what his employees say about him. Since we are not into kiss ass style, employees were given the opportunity to describe him anonymously. Below are the uncensored birthday wishes for one of the most unique human beings we have ever come across.

Bryan openly professes to seize the best out of every day. . .

Judging from what the JBCStyle team in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Orange County had to say below, today we tell him simply to consider a lifetime seized.

If you are a good leader, your employees respect you. If you are a great leader, they respect themselves. Thank you, Bryan, for the countless ways in which you have touched, inspired, and warmed each and every one of us.
With love and the utmost respect on your birthday,
Your Office Peeps

JBCStyle: Bye Bye Richard Johnson Style

Richard Johnson, featured below with Sessa von Richtofen, is making like Elton John and leaving Manhattan on a jet plane, don't know when he'll be back again.

Okay, that's just us with our overly dramatic style - he's just moving to L.A.

BUT it does mark the end of an era for New Yorkers who know that Page Six IS Richard Johnson. According to The Post (and they should know!) Johnson is leaving to work on digital ventures for News Corp., a parent company of The Post.

It's time for some Emily Smith style. . .and let's not forget an all female staff style.

Ladylike and manicured, we're wondering, or claws style?

JBCStyle: Fashion and Music Style

It's hardly a new concept that fashion and music have always had a chocolate and peanut butter thing. Their Reeses love affair is springing up everywhere these days, but the new spin is that the fashion houses and designers are presenting them. A runway show is over in a breathtaking heartbeat. But a music video can be viewed repeatedly, emailed, twittered, take a viral flight through cyber space. . . with the click of a mouse.  How much does a full page ad in a print magazine cost again?

People are getting smart.

Here's Alexander Wang's Fall 2010 video - his website opens right to it and there's something about the beat and the sensual movement of body and fabric that makes you just want to wear his clothes tonight. Now.

Here's a peak at Proenza Schouler boyz Jack and Lazaro speaking frankly about the power of film and video in specific relation to Act da Fool, a film on their collection, directed by Harmony Korine.

And here is Proenza Schouler's short film Act da Fool, directed by Harmony Korine.

As for Dolce and Gabbana? Well Stefano and Domenico have opened their own production company called Dolce and Gabbana Motion Pictures, and if you don't know about their very own youtube channel, check it out. They are about to take over the world - their website makes this very clear. As if getting Naomi Campbell to take to the streets of Manhattan on Fashion's Night Out wasn't enough. . .

We're not surprised - leave it to the Italians to take it to a whole new level, Renaissance style.

Macbook air replacing print style.

JBCStyle: J.Crew and The Rassle

The Rassle rocks out in J. Crew's Ludlow and Aldridge suits in a music video for "Wild Ones."

It's a great video, but it also lets guys see the different cuts of the two suits. The Ludlow is a slimmer fit, and The Aldridge has a more classic fit. We think it's a brilliant idea to show clothing via music videos - what better way to exhibit how the fabric and cut moves with the body?

Guys don't all do Fashion Week Anna Wintour Olympics style, so why not reach out to them video style?

JBCStyle: Swatch Style

Like, OK. Liketotally80s is a website some of us secretly love. Like, check this list. Some of us totally don't find it funny because some of us read it and go it's history, not comedy, you know? So the website reminds us of totally tubular ways of being.  Like unless you were a complete loser, you had at least two or three Swatch watches when growing up in the 80s. If you were really cool, you had a dozen or more and you wore two or three at the same time.

Word.

Anyways, when we heard there was a party at the Gansevoort to celebrate the bigger, more toned down New Gent collection by Swatch, it was totally a no duh situation. Someone from our office was like saying how she was so over them and we were like right about to say like honestly? What's your damage? Right?

The old school ones seem grody to the max compared to the new collection. We feel like anyone who is anyone should have, like, a lot of them. How rad did Fabulous, Patricia Higgins, and Chris Brown look?

We're not going to lie like it was a little weird to see Blair's MOM there like okay maybe in like not TV time but real time the 80s was her generation or whatever, but it was just totally confusing for some of us who take these things seriously, you know?

We like totally want one in every color, Debbie Gibson style.

JBCStyle: Rickie Fowler and Anthony Kim Style

We're always psyched when friends stop by the office and help us procrastinate. When former Canadian PGA tour golfer Andreas Huber stopped in, of course we had to ask him about golf style (yeah, we work with the action sports sector, too - Mike Machanic Action Style). Rocking some Puma himself, Andreas immediately led us to up and coming PGA tour rookie and Ryder Cupper Rickie Fowler's dope site.

We dig his laid back California style and the way he rocks Puma with his own individual flair. We're kinda consumed by Rickie's site and its focus on golf style, but Huber is already telling us about another style setter on the course - "Bad Boy" Anthony Kim and his blinged out belt buckles.  He's signed with Nike but what can we say? The boy likes his buckles and we're guessing they don't have a Just Do It slogan on the back.

This isn't your daddy's golf course anymore.

Runway to Fairway style.

JBCStyle: Dylan's Sweet Life

Dalton alum Dylan Lauren celebrated the publication of her book Dylan's Candy Bar - Unwrap Your Sweet Life at our favorite bar in New York City. How wonderful to love candy and sweets and grow up to own a candy empire. The book is all about la dolce vita style. . . tips on decorating, celebrating, and discovering how candy can inspire and uplift you fill each colorful page and make the book a treat for all ages.

Art, pop culture, and fashion are fused in a medley of photographs that surprise and delight.

Life is short. Vegetables are strange. Eat candy.

Party in your mouth style.

JBCStyle: Willie Randolph Legend Style

This might be the most stylish picture we have ever seen.

Savannah Rose gazes in the direction her grandfather points, and two generations are caught amidst a field of dreams. Moments earlier, the crowds assembled at opening day for the new Yankee Stadium roared when her grandfather walked onto the field.

Models, designers, runways, Fashion Week - we've seen it all. But today we may have just stolen style base. . . Savannah Rose's grandfather Willie Randolph played for the New York Yankees for thirteen years. At the end of his career he ranked 5th in major league history in games at second base. He was the first African American pro-baseball manager when he signed on in 2004 for the New York Mets. He played in the all-star games in '76, '77, '80, '81, '87, '89. He was parts of teams that won two World Series championships and on the coaching staff of teams that won four more. At age 37 he was still batting . 324 over 124 games for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Yes, Willie Randolph has been known for a lot of things in his lifetime - but even he had to chuckle when asked if he has ever given an interview on style. Looks like there's always room for another first time, Mr. Randolph. . .

Willie chuckles again. "Well," he begins, "My style is old school. I'm a jeans kind of guy. I love Lacoste. Jhane Barnes is a favorite. And I collect baseball hats - love the vintage Negro League ones."

Does he have a favorite? Can he take a picture?

"I have an iphone. Hold on, let me see," Randolph obliges. We won't lie, it's a little thrilling to know a living baseball legend is digging in his closet for his favorite hat, then taking a picture on his iphone and emailing it for the first time.

The email (with a perfect attachment) comes through.

Photo by Willie Randolph for JBCStyle

"I love this hat because of its message. The body achieves what the mind believes." From the streets of Brownsville, Brooklyn to the stadium roars that greeted only the best in a game inextricably bound with the history and greatness of this country. But Randolph is more concerned with the greatness of his Cavaracci jeans.

"I wore them when they were in style, when they were out of style, and then when they were back in style," he laughs. (His kids did buy him a pair of Seven jeans. Where's that picture, Mr. Randolph?) "I like a simple, mock neck t-shirt. Calvin Klein, Gap, Hanes. And Nikes. I love my Nikes."

We wonder how his daughter Ciara, now a Fashion Recruiting Executive at JBCStyle (yeah, that's how we scored this baby) felt when listening to her father address her graduating class at Fordham University in 2007. There are some moments in life that must transcend style.

I never gave up; if I'd given up, I'd never be at Shea Stadium. If I'd listened to critics along the way, who knows where I'd have wound up. Keep fighting back like I did. Quitting is the easy way out. Whatever your goals in life, it is imperative that you stay focused, determined.
-Willie Randolph, Fordham University Commencement Address

We ask Ciara what she has learned from her father. Ciara pauses, smiling as she reflects. A man's legacy flashes in his daughter's eyes.

"I learned from my father that there isn't anything I can't do if I put my mind to it. The sky really is the limit."

Simply stated. But not a runway on earth stylish enough to carry its weight.

Father daughter style.

JBCStyle: Hunter Welly Boots Style

One look out the window and we know what we need. Yeah, last year's boots still work because these things are indestructible, but damn they just keep coming out with cuter and cuter ones. We need more style. And yes, cuter could be a word. Shakespeare made stuff up all the time.

The colors and options are so much fun and accessible easily on their website.

The detailing on the Carnaby Boa Tall is too delicious for words.

Another great tip if you just want to update the look on the pair you already have or just warm up in general: Tip toe over to your local Wink store (every Manhattan girls' neighborhood secret) and believe us, nobody carries cooler Hunter Welly accessories. Wink wink. . .

Get your Welly on. Artemis style. . .

JBCStyle: Brownie Noser, An Afternoon Tale

The Brownie Noser

"Um, Daddy? Are you very busy, please? I know you are the boss and you look very busy with those two computer screens up."

"No, Rylee, my sweet chocolate puppy. How can I help you?"

"Well, Daddy, I'm too young to be on Facebook. But Pax and Harold are really really really old. If I were them, I would join the the JBCStyle Fashion Recruiters page. That's where you post jobs and other cool things, right? It doesn't make sense, does it, Daddy?"

"You know, sweet Rylee, I have NO idea why everyone wouldn't want to join our Facebook page. I mean, with all the hours some of us waste, you would think a source which let you know about the latest job listings and other hot topics in fashion would be a no brainer. Even if you don't care about fashion, maybe you have friends who do who NEED jobs. It almost seems selfish not to like our page."

But Bryan was not finished. "You deserve a kiss for bringing that to my attention, Rylee."

"That's why Mike the birthday boy and Carrie and the entire office love you best."

Pitter patter. Pitter patter. Two dogs approach Anisha and breathe heavily. She looks down in concern.

"Um, Mama?"

"Yes, Harold Moscowitz?"

"We have serious issues with Rylee. Right, Pax?"

Silence. Then a soft, "Yeah, you tell her, Harold. I'm not happy about it either. Rylee is a brownie noser."

The End Style

JBCStyle: Bryant Park and Bosses Style

They've been friends since they were fourteen years old. CEO Bryan Zaslow and COO Keith Geller kick it in Bryant Park from time to time. . . our office is perched right above. We suggest a revision to the whole friends shouldn't work together thing with the following:

It's awesome when childhood friends work together.

The creative team here at blogworld needed some pictures that looked a little bit more professional than, well, this. . .

We decided to see if we could get one of our favorite photographers to shoot them. There's just something about David Xavier Prutting's pictures. They are so gorgeous - warning - if you click on his name you will not be able to stop until you have seen them all.

Trust.

We had a blast in Bryant Park, and David is so behind the scenes that you almost forget he is there. Bryan and Keith told us we could share one picture. Um, download happy style.

COO Keith Geller with childhood friend CEO Bryan Zaslow

Sorry Bryan and Keith, we couldn't pick just one. It was like the lays potato chip dilemma - they're so right by the way, you really can't eat just one.

Bryan and Keith with Creative and Social Director Anisha Lakhani

It's all about friendship and happiness style.

JBCStyle I Hate Monday Style

"I wish we had Mad Men style," sighs Demi at our freelance desk.

"It's Monday and honestly? I just want to drink and smoke."

We told you from day one that we may have a hand in everything that happens in fashion, but the common denominator here is Get Real Style.

We're Over Pretentious Style and we're really digging Demi this morning for always saying it like it is.

JBCStyle: TOD'S Elliott Erwitt Style

The latest advertising campaign for Tod's by American photographer Elliott Erwitt features India Hicks and her sons Felix and Armory Flint Wood, Lauren Remington Platt and her sister Ashley Wilcox Platt, Hugo Guinness and Jamie Johnson.

The video opens with the question, "What's my dream?"

"Dreams aren't something I spent a lot of time thinking about," professes Johnson and Johnson heir Jamie Johnson.

"To help empower women in fashion with their fashion sensibilities" says Lauren Remington Platt.

Here's the cast:

New Yorkers will recognize Jamie  from here:

And in his earlier days, here:

And Lauren, with Carlos Souza at the recent 2010 New Yorkers For Children Fall Gala:

Amanda Brooks, in charge of styling and casting, comments that her choices for the casting were amongst friends who she felt "added something new" to Tods.

And us? We're dreamin' to stay dry style. Manhattan is drenched.

JBCStyle: Congratulations Style

Congratulations to Ana Carini of Ana Carini Design for winning our first free gift - a Chanel handbag! We're going to be doing a free give away every month FOR BLOG SUBSCRIBERS ONLY so if you haven't visited the little VIP room over to the left and filled in your email address, take a moment and let us surprise you one day. Who isn't down for a little surprise style?

We were so excited to email Ana with the news, and she responded back immediately:

I am delighted that I won the contest! I really REALLY wish I could be in NYC to personally pick up my bag. I'd love to meet with the team and get to know everyone. So sorry, but I'm miles away, in Los Angeles. . . I've been following JBCStyle on a daily basis. Very useful content. Extremely helpful resource for industry news. I really enjoy reading your posts and updates.

Ana, you have an open invite when you're next in NYC, and no worries, we've got mail style as well. This little baby will be en route to you Monday morning and we hope you'll send us a picture of you rocking some Chanel out there in Los Angeles. We checked out your blog and think your Little Black Box idea is brilliant. We dig that you're all about the twitter style and we will be sure to check out the Ana Carini Design page on Facebook as well!

The internet has been around for so long that it's hard to reflect back on those card catalog years, but every now and then we cannot help but pause and reflect on how cool this medium is - with simple mouse clicks Chanel bags are gifted, relationships are forged, and two companies on opposite coasts can meet and learn so much about one another.

Forget Chanel, this weekend we're all about how much we love Cyber Style.

JBCStyle: Rising Star Style

Designer Kristin Klonoski's debut line Astrophel and Stella is pure romance. Fitting, since any lover of Renaissance literature will recognize the name as an homage to Sir Philip Sidney's collection of romantic love sonnets. Derived from Greek, Astrophel translates as "star lover" and Stella, of course, is Latin for star - Sidney made them immortal in his sonnet sequence which is widely regarded as one of the greatest poetic achievements of the Elizabethan age. Klonoski shares, "The line is inspired by historical figures, ballet, and easy glamour."

Talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve. . .

Klonoski is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and recently left the French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro to boldly step out with her own line this Spring.

Rising Hollywood starlet Yaya Dacosta is a fan and The Post was quick to take notice, and What2WearWhere's founder Karen Klopp commissioned a dress in seersucker when she chaired the polo matches this summer. (yep, the best part of this line is that all the dresses are made to order. . .you can pick your fabric, request a shortened hemline, a longer sleeve. . . the sky is the limit. Or should we say stars? (We're so clever we crack ourselves up style)

Check out Kristin's blog for pictures of girls around town sporting Astrophel and Stella, as well as shots of the designer's latest achievement: a pop up store at The Plaza for FNO!

To debut our We Got Wall program, we are honored to feature Kristin's sketches in our reception area this month:

We're even more excited about showcasing her versatile, beautiful cocktail dresses right in time for holiday season.

Place your orders now - Astrophel and Stella is available at The Plaza Emerging Designer Boutique, or by emailing info@astrophelandstella.com.

If you're an emerging designer interested in having your label showcased, please email AnishaL@JBCStyle.com - we leave you with Bryan Zaslow's matter-of-fact declaration:

There are about 800 companies in the fashion industry employing around 175,000 people. JBCStyle sees fifty plus percent of them out of our New York office on an annual basis. How much more of a niche exclusive eye can we have to showcase fashion to fashion? Or talent to fashion?

Show us your line and let's get it out there.

Prime Reality style.
