We are all a little bit in awe of 13 year old fashion blogger, Tavi Gevinson. The dean of the Columbia Journalism school recently stated, "Eyeballs are the currency of the new world." Tavi Gevinson started her blog, The Style Rookie, when she was eleven. Two years later, she has a following of four million readers.
Tavi regularly attends Fashion Week. She sits front row. She's been on the cover of POP magazine, and the press on her online will keep you busy for hours.
Her blog is genuinely compelling. It's the eptiome of je ne sais quois because we're not sure what it is exactly that Tavi has, but it's a VOICE. It's different. It's new. It's fresh. Sometimes it's even a little cheeky. But in an intelligent way - like her letter to Seventeen magazine. How wonderful for a kid to be able to cooly announce to a magazine that she was thinking about writing to them, but then figured her letter would get more exposure on her own blog. And be right about it.
There's some dispute out there as to her age and what is "appropriate" for a 13 year old to be doing - i.e. attending fashion week, etc. - but JBCStyle understands that in unchartered landscapes, pioneers always take a little heat. We think testing limits and breaking barriers - with honesty, sincerity, and a little quirk -are the height of stylish. Hats off to you, Avi - the blog is the limit.
